Green Smoothies

Just about any fruit and any type of greens may be used.  Always put a small amount of water or other liquid in the blender first (one half to one cup).  It is also helpful to blend the water and greens first, and then add the fruit.  I prefer to steam the greens ahead of time to aid digestion.  Additional water may be added to desired consistency.  If the mix is not sweet enough, add stevia, honey or dates to sweeten.  Below you will find a few tasty options to try.  At the end of the page is a list of optional add-ins for any green smoothie

Berry Coconut Green Smoothie


  • 1 cup canned coconut milk

  • 1 cup frozen berries (I like blueberries)
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups spinach or kale  (steam first)
  • 1 banana (optional, for sweetness, may substitute stevia or another fruit)



  • 1/2 cup pineapple chunks
  • 1 avocado
  • 2 cups spinach or kale  (steam first)
  • 1/4 - 1/2 cup liquid (pineapple juice, water)
  • 1 frozen banana, chopped 
  • 1 tablespoon freshly ground flax seed

  1. Place water and spinach into blender and liquefy. 

  2. Add coconut milk and blend until smooth.

  3. Add fruit and blend

Optional Add-Ins for Green Smoothies

  • Ground flax seeds (1-2 tablespoons)
  • Hemp or chia seeds (1-2 tablespoons)
  • Dried ginger (warming) or turmeric (anti-inflammatory) - 1 teaspoon
  • Spirulina or other greens powders
  • Probiotic powders
